Coal


Coal is a combustible substance, solid, light and black which derives from the decomposition of vegetable stuff containing carbon. The coal displayed at our exhibition is lignite, a mineral coal used from the first industrial revolution and formed some 65 million years ago.

USES OF COAL
From 1963 to 1993 Catalonia lived its peak in coal consumption; this tendency has been changing and the use of coal has been slowing down in he last years. However, it has been the great industrial fuel used in steam engines, cookers, boilers, excavators and power plants.
